RUMI SUNQU means STONE HEART in quechua. A poetic description of my andean roots, the devotion I share for the ancient pre-inca history, the influence of my ancestors and the admiration I have for the mystique they left behind.

My name is CARO LUNA, I'm a writer, chef and history addict. Please join me in this very personal journey through the magical land of Perú and the memoirs of the Tahuantinsuyo empire.

The subterranean healing waters of the Huacachina Oasis.

Located 5km west from the city of Ica, the beautiful #oasis rises in the middle of the pacific coast desert like a vision between the #dunes. The beautiful "huarango" and #palm trees give the landscape just enough green to rest from the otherwise golden horizon.

She runned away and jumped into the lake where she became a mermaid, forever waiting for the warrior to return into the deep waters of her sadness. Many claim to have seen her or heard her sing. You can even find a statue of a mermaid in the oasis.

In the 60s the Huacachina waters #healing power became very famous among local tourists. Hotels and new roads were built to improve the access to the area. Nowadays you can find all kind of establishments ready to fulfill the #tourist needs and many specialized agencies for those adventurous people who dare to practice #sandboarding in the high hills of the surrounding #desert.

The Warrior and the Mermaid

Locals tell the story of a young beautiful woman who fell in love with an important #warrior who left her to go to war and died before returning to her. The lonely woman cried for days when she heard the sad news, sitting in the place where they first met. Her tears were so abundant that a lagoon was created. She stood there for days with a small mirror in her hands. One day she say in the mirror that a young man was watching her and got scared. She runned away and jumped into the lake where she became a mermaid, forever waiting for the warrior to return into the deep waters of her sadness. Many claim to have seen her or heard her sing. You can even find a statue of a #mermaid in the oasis.

Local gastronomy

Perhaps the most important influence is the Afroperuvian community that stablished in Ica for decades.

The Ica region has a wide variety of dishes to explore. Perhaps the most important influence is the Afroperuvian community that stablished in Ica for decades. Between the classic dishes you can find #Carapulcra, a spiced stew with chicken, pork and dried potatoes. The result is a creamy, heavy, delicious casserole that is served with white rice on the side.

Pisco culture

Close enough in #Ica we have many of the most elegant and important #Pisco #distilleries of the country. There are many tours that include visiting the #traditional #vineyards and the manufacturing process. It is a lovely way of spending the day, tasting different #piscos and even having lunch in a local restaurant. I totally recommend it. It wont be expensive at all. But remmember Pisco is a very strong kind of beverage so if you are new in this drinking pisco bussiness you better take it slow at first.
